Updated: Except for a church social in which I used my Birchbox kit to get ready, I need that much need break from makeup, doing my nails and styling products with my hair. Whether its once a week or maybe the whole month, allow your body to take a vacation from its "normal" beauty routine.
I wanted to post this about my personal experience in "taking a break" in the my usual beauty routine!! Since its the month of June...hot, humid, sticky, dry comes to mind depending where you live...I decided except for a few events that I will maintain a break from makeup, nail polish on my hand & feet, and other!!
Most know that your skin is the largest organ on your body and sometimes we need to let our skin breathe and take a rest from the usual beauty routine!! Like I said this is my personal journey and I am not telling you to do the same but please consider your lifestyle and beauty routine!!
For my face, I will continue to wash, prep, and moisturize morning and night with my routine products and cleaning out any skincare samples as well!! Based on my June calender, I only need to apply makeup at couples/singles dinner, young professional event, and Sunday morning for Church! Since I have alot of lip balms there will be the slightest shade of color on my lips!! I have dry skin during the summer so I will definitely maintain moisturizing my face!!
For my body, I will continue cleansing and moisturizing for my dry skin type in addition usually my routine products plus using Vitamin E for my scars! Just like the above mentioned June engagements, I will not use body scents, body glitter, tanning liquids, or any perfume/makeup on my body! Don't worry I am using deodorant! :)
For my nails on my hands and feet, I am taking a break from nail polish!! Did you know that your nails "breathe" too?! Let your nails BREATHE once in a while!! I will continue to moisturize and use nail strengthening treatment!
For my hair, I will limit how much hairspray that I use during the week and use a more casual style for Summer weather while protecting it from humidity!! Except for scalp conditioner (leave-in treatment for dry/itchy scalp), I will decrease on styling aids and heat styling minus blow drying after shampoo!
I love getting doll up and everything but sometimes you just need to take a break!
Until next time....

This is a great post and I totally agree with you that some downtime from products can be a good thing. I've been finding it so hard to paint and do nail art with the summer heat but I think my nails have appriciated me taking a little break here and there. xx
ReplyDeleteYour nails "actually" breathe so taking a break in between nail polish/art is a good thing for optimal nail health!! Sometimes I rub a little olive oil on my clean nails esp at night (I am a cook plus this ingredient is in OPI Hand cream too)!

Definitely good advice. Especially nails and toenails! But if you're giving your skin a break, don't forget the sunscreen! You still need it
ReplyDeleteAlways Sunscreen!!
DeleteI like to simplify my routine some nights. My face sure doesn't need a whole slew of products every night.
ReplyDeleteI find out this is the case on a few nights...along as you wash and moisturize you will be fine at bedtime!
DeleteI completely agree that taking a break from wearing makeup is good for you. Not just for your skin but for your own confidence too, you can go out without makeup and its absolutely fine! :D I dont wear it unless I am going somewhere where I want to xxx
ReplyDeleteThere are times that I go bare esp. doing chores, being with kid, etc. which I wear mostly a lip balm!
DeleteI agree with Laura. For me, I love to give my body and skin the opportunity to be naturally beautiful whenever I can. Great post Ursula xo
ReplyDeleteThank you Sharon!
DeleteIt easy for me to take a break in the summer because it is so hot and my skin is so oily. i just want to wash and go.
ReplyDeleteCause I live in a older home, I sometimes go without makeup in the summer !!
