#LifewithNathan Celebrating #AutismAwarenessMonth at #HomeDepot #KidsWorkshop

During the First Saturday of April, which is Autism Awareness Month for kids & families, Nathan and I went to Home Depot for their monthly Kids Workshop! The DIY project was a butterfly house and we got our set and found a work space to get building!! Nathan was more engaging for this project and tested both our strengths and weaknesses, various emotions both high & low, and joy of doing something together (and not comparing yourselves to other parents and kids!!  One of the best parts for Nathan is always painting his DIY projects from choosing the colors and then carefully painting the wooden projects with the sponge applicator!

This is one of biggest tests of being a parent at a Kids Workshop...letting my son hammer more & independently without "hand over hand" assistance from yours truly (don't ever do a stress test on me after this !!). Except for a few interventions where part of that hammer came to close to his eyes/face, he showed self-control and safety for other kids working beside him!!

This was the best that I could do to get Nathan to pose with his latest creation and certificate but it will have to do especially so close to lunch after 2 hours at the Home Depot!! I have to say after all these years, Home Depot provides a safe and creative environment for kids & families from various backgrounds to learn and have fun building projects together!!

Until next time..
